Paris Landing to Pebble Isle

The trip up the Tennessee today was quiet, and serene with only two tugs, a couple of pleasure boats and a few fishing boats.  The hills seem to be turning into small mountains; we suspect that the scenery will become more beautiful as we go.   We are seeing some houses now that we have passed the Land Between the Lakes.  The other shore has no housing because of a 52,000 acre nature preserve.

Pebble Isle Marina is located next to a major state historical park and close to New Johnsonville; Old Johnsonville lies beneath the flooded river.

Part of the history here relates to a very important confederate victory in which General Forrest, a self volunteer showed his genious by leading his men to present constant problems for the Union Army  and Sherman culminating in the sinking of 33 union ships which still lie on the old river bed in the area of mile 96.

We have been talking with Jay, a self taught boater who had never driven a boat until he bought this one in St Paul Minnesota and is driving it down the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers! Lots of courage!

Last night we met Chuck  Donofrio and his wife.  Chuck is a pilot who flies small executive planes for a living.  Their 52 foot boat is a beauty.

Internet is too slow to load pictures tonight, so we will add them to tomorrow's posting from Clifton Tennessee.
