From Peterborough to Youngs Point and to Bobcaygeon

After a great 4 days at Peterborough we traveled through 8 locks and 9 miles in 5 hours!   The scenery was great and we met a lot of canadians as we were locking through.  All in all a good day which ended at Youngs Point where we stayed on the lock wall; there we visited the General Store, the Lockside Trading Company and a resturant in this family resort area.  I finished the evening by doing a little fishing off of the lock walls.
Here the gentle limestone and grassy marshlands are giving way to the rock of the canadian shield.
Young a widower from Ireland established the town of Youngs Point in 1825.

The next day (July 5th) we traveled to Bobcaygeon ( two indian words meaning fast water between two rocks).  My fame has preceded me in that there is a Big Bob Channel and a Little Bob Channel!
We will stay in this marina for 2 nights to enjoy the town's treats; it is a beautiful place with many unusual stores and some that have what we actually need!
We met Pete and Kim canadians who gave us a container of delicious icecream from the Kiawatha Dairy.
The scenery from Peterborough to Bobcaygeon has gotten more beautiful as we traveled.   We have reached the mid point of the Trent Severn Waterway; and near the mid point of our great loop trip.

buy an island/ build a house

There are still many fisherman but many more pleasure boaters and lots of houseboats in this region of many lakes and islands.  After a while you get the idea that all canadians have boats, houses on islands and spend their days on the water instead of working- probably not true.

Our next post will be on July 7 as we travel to Fenelon Falls
