Chicago

The crossing from New Buffalo to Chicago was a little rough for about three hours building to 2 to 4 foot waves, but the seas settled down somewhat for the last two hours.  The views of Chicago from the lake are outstanding.
We entered our pre assigned slip at Du Sable harbor with the help of a neighbor boater, Tony, who offered us a beer and asked us if we want to go with him for a 6 mile ride to the gas dock.  We took him up on both offers.
His boat is a 35 foot speed boat with a top speed of 55 mph!  It was a fun ride.  A nice guy.

From our slip we could see Navy Pier with it's ferris wheel as well as many landmark buildings. After a well deserved nap and a few minor tasks we walked over to the Columbia Yacht Club which is housed in a hugh ice breaker.  The ship was built in the 1800s for the purpose of  helping the people of Prince Edward Island to stay in touch with the rest of the world during their long cold winters. The yacht club itself dates back to the late 1800s but the club didn't buy the ship until 1947  Much of the ship has been left in it's original state, however the dining areas, foyers, meeting rooms etc, were added in a very tasteful manner.  Quite a unique club.
We enjoyed a well deserved 1st class meal and after walking throughout the ship we returned to our little "home".
Our boat is afew steps away from the bicycle path so we will bike tomorrow along the lake.  The path actually goes from Wisconsin to Michigan!

We will stay in our favorite city for 2 nights before taking the Chicago river through the city to the Illinois river and beyond.
