From Charlevoix to Frankfort

Our weather window was here!  We left the dock about 8:00 AM to arrive in Leland about noon a trip of 34 miles;   however the low wind speeds made the trip so easy that we decided to skip Leland and go 75 miles to Frankfort Michigan.  We enjoyed the scenery of the beautiful Sleeping Bear sand dunes as we passed Leland.   Leland was developed as one of many "harbors of refuge"  along the Michigan shoreline.  These harbors are about 20 miles apart so boaters seeking shelter would never have to go more than 20 miles to find it.  The marinas are very reasonable and will always find a way to accomodate a boater regardless of how crowded the conditions.

Frankfort is a nice little town with lots of  resturants and interesting stores.  Frank built a fence to keep the snow out of his house.  The towns people called his house Franks fort.  Later the town became Frankfort.

We are expecting rough seas on the next day or two and therefore we will probably stay here for a while.

We will use these two days to catch up on boat work and we will rent a car to visit some of the Michigan towns that we are not able to visit by boat.
